Experience: Unlocking Potential Conference

We just wrapped up an AMAZING conference, which brought together hundreds of universities and employers in a forum focused on taking action to support the next generation of talent that our country -- and our world -- so desperately needs. Live updates were posted throughout the two-day event (check out the link in this post's title). The energy, creativity and determination that every single participant brought to the table was truly inspiring... this group can -- and WILL -- be the difference that changes everything for the better...

Visiting Microsoft's technology center yesterday was out of control... As their partner supporting the worldwide Students to Business program, we were meeting with the MSFT team to see how we could use their latest technologies to support students, universities, and employers around the globe. Soooo much more to share, but in a word: "WOW!!!"

What's Jenna been up to in Beijing?

One of our fabulous interns was selected for an Emerson program that’s bringing a dozen or so students to Beijing to provide journalistic coverage of the Olympics… SO COOL!!!  Here is an update…

Subject: What's Jenna been up to in Beijing?

In case anybody was worried that Jenna has just been hanging around, being bored, while working in Beijing for the Olympic News Agency, she has:

  1. Visited the Forbidden City
  2. Visited Tiananmen Square
  3. Climbed the Great Wall (at Badaling),
  4. Eaten at the most famous Peking Duck restaurant in Beijing,
  5. Walked around the Ming Tombs and the Summer Palace
  6. Seen a Beijing Opera
  7. Blogged for Emerson, for her hometown newspaper, and for the Tampa Tribune
  8. Found some awesome coffee shops in Beijing that totally put Starbucks to shame.

She starts actually working full-time next week, with a nice, easy shift – work two12-hour days, then one day off, then two on again -- right through August.

We're having a phenomenal two-day session with our university and employer advisory boards... Having so many industry thought-leaders together always generates amazing vision for the future (and a whole lot of laughs :) Thanks to all for joining this great session!

Definition of Success

"The definition of success...

-To laugh often and much
-To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children
-To endure the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends
-To appreciate beauty
-To find the best in others
-To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition
-To know even one life has breathed easier because you lived.

This is to have succeeded.”

The Hunt for Millenials

This is a fantastic article describing what we see every day at Experience: the over-the-top hunt for Millenials who are coming out of US colleges & universities… the most valuable, most highly-sought-after, and most high-impact segment of the entire labor market. As this piece rightly points out, employers need to bring their A-Game to win this war for talent… and the stakes are very, very high. Kudos to the author, Liza Mundy, for excellent reporting and the many examples she shares of the lengths employers are going to in an effort to win the hearts of our world’s future leaders.
